This is a specialized leadership training session for student
organization leaders. This includes but not limited
to:
- Student Council/Government
- School Clubs (ie French, Debate, Key, etc)
- Band/section leaders
- Class Officers
These elected or appointed student officers have significant
responsibilities to their club. While many of these
students have some leadership ability, there exist a great
need to fully prepare them for the responsibilities they
are entrusted. Unfortunately for some, their popularity
or work ethic has given them a false sense of preparedness
for there position. Without appropriate leadership
training, their term in office can be filled with frustration
or unfulfilled potential. We designed specific activities
to prepare the student officers for leadership throughout
the school year. This includes:
- Defining & focusing on club/organization’s
purpose
- Setting the calendar
- Planning & organizing events
- Establishing priorities
- Defining accountability
Based on previous experience working with different groups,
we will use the following training techniques in presenting
the sessions:
Experiential activities - Through the use of purpose
driven physical interaction students will experience learning
of key concepts.
Video segments- Brief clips of movies are used to
illustrate points of the lesson in the training session. The
segments are age-appropriate and compliment the learning
experience.
Lecture - To ensure understanding of key concepts,
short lectures will be presented in an engaging manner..
Individual reflection - Through use of journaling
and discussions, students will indicate and document the
personal application of the key concepts.
Small/Large group discussion - Based on the issue
presented in the training session, students will be assigned
to small or large groups to discuss a series of questions.
The concepts are reinforced after each activity by engaging
debrief questions that are discussed in group settings and/or
student journals. |
